This work is built on the consonance between two layers of print—and two types of knowledge. Fragments of a chemical handbook carry the logic of classification, measurement, and precision. Tables, columns of figures, and fractional density values represent a language that claims to describe the world in its entirety. Overlaid on this is letterpress printing. The same technique, the same printing ink, the same table elements, dots, and leaders—but no longer for the sake of conveying information: the copper-gold stripes and prints layered on top are in harmony with the handbook, but do not repeat its meaning—they are randomly scattered across the sheet, forming a new rhythm and history. This is not a quote—it is a recurring, elevating echo in the empty space of a Gothic cathedral. And repetition here is not redundancy, but a ritual. As in prayer, words are spoken not to communicate something new, but to maintain a connection with what otherwise slips away.
