About the Artist
My name is Oleg Pospelov. I am an artist and designer, based in Tenerife, Spain since 2014. Born in 1975, I have worked as a graphic designer since 1999 and began making art in 2023. I work across styles — including figurative drawing — but the core of my practice is abstract composition. My favourite technique is acrylic monoprint with collage elements.
I make compositions that reflect beauty as I understand it. My task as an artist is to bring harmony to the space of a picture, whatever it is made from — scraps of old newspaper, blots, accidental brushstrokes. I impose order on chaos; I look for harmony in the disorder of days, events, and connections. I see the world around me as an interweaving of line, rhythm, and colour — and within it I sense, and often see, a graphic perfection I try to recreate in my work. Understanding what beauty is and how to make it — that is my primary goal.
I don't take images from my imagination; I live them in the moment of making. A street noise, someone's phone conversation, a knock at the door, waiting for the postman, a warm breeze through the window, a creaking door, running water, a dog's breathing, a neighbour's voice drifting up from the patio. I don't create something new — I reveal what already exists but has gone unnoticed and unrecorded.
The central thread running through my work is time, before which we are all powerless. What I do is not an attempt to defeat it, but to fix the current moment — its sounds, light, rhythm, and meaning. Each work is an artefact of passing time, proof of a day that has gone. Proof that I was, and am, and was again.
